Description
Leucophyllum is a silver leaved desert shrub, sometimes called Texas sage, that flushes into purple bloom in response to humidity rather than on a fixed seasonal calendar.
It is offered at 50cm to 60cm for AED 20.
That humidity trigger is oddly well suited to the Gulf. Coastal Dubai humidity spikes and the occasional winter rain both set off flowering, so the shrub can bloom when nothing else in the bed is doing anything. The fine silver hairs on the leaves also reflect harsh sun, which is why it stays looking crisp in August.
How to care for Leucophyllum in the UAE
Full sun, alkaline sandy soil, and watering only when the ground has genuinely dried. Skip the fertiliser. The mistake gardeners make is treating it like an ornamental hedge and shearing it into a tight box, which removes the flowering wood and leaves a dense grey shape that never blooms again.
Where Leucophyllum works best

Why has mine never flowered?
Usually too much water, too much feed, or shearing at the wrong time. All three push leaf growth at the cost of bloom.
Will it survive without irrigation?
Once fully established it copes on very little, though it still needs regular water through its first summer.

Watering:
Water your plant once a week or when the soil starts to feel slightly dry on the surface. Keep the soil consistently moist, but be careful not to overwater, as this can cause brown spots and leaf drop. If the leaves become curly or dry, it's a sign that the plant needs water. It's best to water your plant in the early morning or late evening when the temperatures are cooler. Always check the soil before watering.
Light:
Provide bright indoor light or indirect sunlight for about 6 to 8 hours a day.
Temperature:
Maintain temperatures between 18°C and 24°C. Avoid exposing the plant to drafts, as these can cause undesirable temperature fluctuations. Mist the plant occasionally, about twice a week, to help maintain optimal humidity levels.
Fertilizer:
Apply liquid fertiliser every 15 days when the plant is actively growing. For best results, use Folikraft ready-to-use Indoor Plant Food.
