Most of what we stock is ficus, because it is the species that genuinely copes with the UAE climate. It tolerates indoor air conditioning, handles the summer outdoors in a shaded spot, and recovers well from the regular pruning a bonsai shape needs. Table bonsai want bright indirect light indoors; the large sculpted trees are grown for outdoor use and need full sun and space.

Caring for a bonsai in Dubai

Bonsai sit in shallow pots with limited soil, so they dry out faster than a normal potted plant. Check the soil every couple of days rather than watering to a fixed schedule, and water until it runs from the base. Indoors, keep them away from the direct blast of an air conditioning vent, which dries the foliage faster than the roots can replace it. Shape is maintained by light, regular pruning rather than occasional hard cutting.
