Chinese Fan Palm is a slow growing palm with stiff, circular fronds split into drooping segments, giving it a flatter and more architectural profile than a feather palm.
It is sold at 80cm tall, priced from AED 280 to AED 400, with nursery or ceramic pot options. Growth is a frond or two per year, so the height you buy is roughly what you keep.
Unlike most indoor palms, this one takes real sun. On a UAE balcony it hardens off and holds its fronds stiffly upright, while the same palm in a dim interior produces softer, longer stalked fronds that sag under their own weight.
How to care for Chinese Fan Palm in the UAE
Bright light, including a few hours of direct morning sun. Water deeply, then let the top third of the compost dry before watering again. The recurring problem is a pot too small for the roots, which dries out daily in summer and browns every new frond.

Watering:
Water your plant once a week or when the soil starts to feel slightly dry on the surface. Keep the soil consistently moist, but be careful not to overwater, as this can cause brown spots and leaf drop. If the leaves become curly or dry, it's a sign that the plant needs water. It's best to water your plant in the early morning or late evening when the temperatures are cooler. Always check the soil before watering.
Light:
Provide bright indoor light or indirect sunlight for about 6 to 8 hours a day.
Temperature:
Maintain temperatures between 18°C and 24°C. Avoid exposing the plant to drafts, as these can cause undesirable temperature fluctuations. Mist the plant occasionally, about twice a week, to help maintain optimal humidity levels.
Fertilizer:
