Description
Canna Lily Green is a rhizome grown flowering perennial with broad paddle shaped leaves and upright stems, closer to a garden plant than a houseplant in habit.
It is stocked at 30cm and 40cm in nursery pots, priced from AED 25 to AED 35. Those are young plants: cannas gain height quickly once the rhizome settles.
Canna is one of the few flowering plants that welcomes heavy watering in UAE summer, because it evolved in wet ground. Planted in local sandy soil, water drains away faster than the rhizome can take it up, so leaf edges tear and brown.
How to care for Canna Lily Green in the UAE
Full sun to light shade, with generous watering through the hot months. Mulch heavily or mix compost into sandy beds to slow drainage. Most cannas stall here because they were treated as an indoor plant, where light is too low for flowering and leaves stretch thin.

FAQ
Will it come back after cutting down?
Yes. Cut spent stems to ground level and the rhizome pushes new shoots, usually more than the season before. That is how one plant becomes a clump.
Can I grow it indoors?
Not well. It needs strong direct light to flower, so a bright balcony or garden bed gives a far better result.
Plants Care
Watering:
Water your plant once a week or when the soil starts to feel slightly dry on the surface. Keep the soil consistently moist, but be careful not to overwater, as this can cause brown spots and leaf drop. If the leaves become curly or dry, it's a sign that the plant needs water. It's best to water your plant in the early morning or late evening when the temperatures are cooler. Always check the soil before watering.
Light:
Provide bright indoor light or indirect sunlight for about 6 to 8 hours a day.
Temperature:
Maintain temperatures between 18°C and 24°C. Avoid exposing the plant to drafts, as these can cause undesirable temperature fluctuations. Mist the plant occasionally, about twice a week, to help maintain optimal humidity levels.
Fertilizer:
Apply liquid fertiliser every 15 days when the plant is actively growing. For best results, use Folikraft ready-to-use Indoor Plant Food.
