Description
Vicia Palm is a fan leaved palm sold as a single specimen, with stiff fronds spreading from a short, stocky base. It is supplied at 2 metres for AED 850, which puts it at courtyard scale rather than tabletop scale.
Fan palms cope with heat bouncing off a villa wall better than most feather leaved palms, but the rigid leaf segments hold dust, and in Dubai air the fans turn grey within weeks unless hosed down. Alkaline soil can also pull new fronds pale, which a chelated iron feed corrects.
How to care for Vicia Palm in the UAE
Outdoors it takes full sun once acclimatised; indoors it needs the brightest spot available. Water deeply, then let the topsoil dry. The most common way this palm is lost here is standing water in a decorative pot with no drainage hole: roots suffocate and the spear leaf pulls out cleanly.

Can a Vicia Palm live indoors in Dubai?
It can, next to a large window or glass door. Away from direct light the new fronds emerge smaller each time and the plant slowly declines.
Should older brown fronds be cut off?
Cut them once fully brown, close to the trunk. Removing fronds that are still partly green takes food away from the palm.
Plants Care
Watering:
Water your plant once a week or when the soil starts to feel slightly dry on the surface. Keep the soil consistently moist, but be careful not to overwater, as this can cause brown spots and leaf drop. If the leaves become curly or dry, it's a sign that the plant needs water. It's best to water your plant in the early morning or late evening when the temperatures are cooler. Always check the soil before watering.
Light:
Provide bright indoor light or indirect sunlight for about 6 to 8 hours a day.
Temperature:
Maintain temperatures between 18°C and 24°C. Avoid exposing the plant to drafts, as these can cause undesirable temperature fluctuations. Mist the plant occasionally, about twice a week, to help maintain optimal humidity levels.
Fertilizer:
Apply liquid fertiliser every 15 days when the plant is actively growing. For best results, use Folikraft ready-to-use Indoor Plant Food.
