Description
Traveler's Palm is a large fan shaped tropical plant whose leaves grow in a single flat plane rather than a rounded crown.
Heights run from 1.2m up to 3.0m, priced between AED 150 and AED 650, with a nursery pot or a ceramic pot.
Under Gulf sun the broad paddle leaves split along the ribs. That is normal rather than damage, and it happens faster on an exposed balcony. Saline tap water also leaves a pale crust at the leaf margins over a season, so an occasional deep flush with low salt water helps.
How to care for Traveler's Palm in the UAE
Bright light, indoors close to glass or outdoors with morning sun and afternoon shade. Water generously in summer and much less from December to February. Most losses here come from a pot with no drainage hole, where salts and water collect at the base and rot the crown.

Is the Traveler's Palm a true palm?
No. It belongs to the bird of paradise family and only looks palm like. That is also why it wants more water than a date or coconut palm.
How wide does a Traveler's Palm get indoors?
The fan spreads sideways rather than outward in all directions. Allow about two metres of width at the 2.0m size and keep it clear of walkways.
Plants Care
Watering:
Water your plant once a week or when the soil starts to feel slightly dry on the surface. Keep the soil consistently moist, but be careful not to overwater, as this can cause brown spots and leaf drop. If the leaves become curly or dry, it's a sign that the plant needs water. It's best to water your plant in the early morning or late evening when the temperatures are cooler. Always check the soil before watering.
Light:
Provide bright indoor light or indirect sunlight for about 6 to 8 hours a day.
Temperature:
Maintain temperatures between 18°C and 24°C. Avoid exposing the plant to drafts, as these can cause undesirable temperature fluctuations. Mist the plant occasionally, about twice a week, to help maintain optimal humidity levels.
Fertilizer:
Apply liquid fertiliser every 15 days when the plant is actively growing. For best results, use Folikraft ready-to-use Indoor Plant Food.
