Description
Phoenix Palm is a stout, slow growing date palm relative with stiff arching fronds that radiate from a broad crown sitting low on a thick, textured trunk.
One height is stocked, 1.5m, supplied in a nursery pot, at AED 350.
Among palms sold here this one is at the tough end: it takes 45C heat, dry wind and poor sandy soil without complaint, and older specimens survive on very little supplementary water. Its weakness is the crown, where red palm weevil enters, so any oozing or collapsing central spear needs immediate attention.
How to care for Phoenix Palm in the UAE
Full sun, deep but infrequent irrigation, and a palm feed twice yearly. Remove only fully brown fronds. Over pruning is the standard error here: cutting green fronds back to a narrow tuft starves the palm, weakens the trunk taper and makes the crown more attractive to weevil, since fresh cuts release the scent that draws them in.
Where Phoenix Palm works best

Yes, the lower leaflets are modified into stiff spines near the stem, so handle the fronds with gloves.
How quickly will it gain height?
Slowly. This palm thickens its trunk for years before it makes noticeable vertical progress.

Watering:
Water your plant once a week or when the soil starts to feel slightly dry on the surface. Keep the soil consistently moist, but be careful not to overwater, as this can cause brown spots and leaf drop. If the leaves become curly or dry, it's a sign that the plant needs water. It's best to water your plant in the early morning or late evening when the temperatures are cooler. Always check the soil before watering.
Light:
Provide bright indoor light or indirect sunlight for about 6 to 8 hours a day.
Temperature:
Maintain temperatures between 18°C and 24°C. Avoid exposing the plant to drafts, as these can cause undesirable temperature fluctuations. Mist the plant occasionally, about twice a week, to help maintain optimal humidity levels.
Fertilizer:
Apply liquid fertiliser every 15 days when the plant is actively growing. For best results, use Folikraft ready-to-use Indoor Plant Food.
