Description
Lady Palm is a clumping fan palm, Rhapis excelsa, that grows as slim upright canes rather than a single trunk, and tolerates lower light than any other palm we stock.
It is available at 80cm for AED 125 and 1.2m for AED 185, in a nursery pot. You can add a decorative pot of your choice separately.
Lady Palm is one of the few palms that stays indoors in a Dubai apartment all year without stretching toward the window. Its weak point is airflow: within a metre of a wall mounted cooling unit, the split fan tips brown and dry within a month.
How to care for Lady Palm in the UAE
Low to moderate indirect light, with compost kept evenly damp but never waterlogged. It is thirstier than most indoor plants sold here. The most common failure is letting the pot dry out fully once in summer, browning the tips of every fan.
Where Lady Palm works best
Bedrooms, nurseries, waiting areas and shaded winter terraces suit it, and it holds a soft screen between two seating areas. It is listed with our plants that are safe around cats and dogs.

Is Lady Palm toxic to cats?
No. Rhapis excelsa is not listed as toxic to cats or dogs, which makes it a common choice where a pet chews foliage.
Can Lady Palm go on a balcony in Dubai?
On a shaded balcony from November to April, yes. Through summer, direct sun and reflected heat off floor and railing burn the fans.
Plants Care
Watering:
Water your plant once a week or when the soil starts to feel slightly dry on the surface. Keep the soil consistently moist, but be careful not to overwater, as this can cause brown spots and leaf drop. If the leaves become curly or dry, it's a sign that the plant needs water. It's best to water your plant in the early morning or late evening when the temperatures are cooler. Always check the soil before watering.
Light:
Provide bright indoor light or indirect sunlight for about 6 to 8 hours a day.
Temperature:
Maintain temperatures between 18°C and 24°C. Avoid exposing the plant to drafts, as these can cause undesirable temperature fluctuations. Mist the plant occasionally, about twice a week, to help maintain optimal humidity levels.
Fertilizer:
Apply liquid fertiliser every 15 days when the plant is actively growing. For best results, use Folikraft ready-to-use Indoor Plant Food.
