The Golden Shower Tree (Cassia fistula) is a seasonal flowering tree that produces hanging yellow racemes across the canopy, giving one concentrated display rather than continuous colour.
Stocked at 2 metres and 3.5 metres, AED 250 to AED 600, in a nursery pot.
It handles UAE heat and full sun well once established and is deep rooted enough that its water needs drop below what its canopy size suggests. Like other seasonal flowering trees it carries a garden for a few concentrated weeks and stays green for the rest of the year, which decides where it belongs in a planting scheme.
How to care for a Golden Shower Tree in the UAE
Full sun and free draining soil. Water consistently through the first season while it establishes, then reduce. Prune after flowering rather than before, since it flowers on established wood.
Where it works best
An open position where the canopy can spread and the seasonal display is visible from the house or a seating area. Other trees that flower in one concentrated season sit under flowering trees and shrubs.
