The Ghaf Tree is the UAE national tree, a deep rooted desert legume that stays green through summer by drawing water from far below the surface.
Sizes run 1.0m, 1.5m and 2.5m in a nursery pot, priced at AED 60, AED 150 and AED 450 as the tree gets larger.
Unlike almost everything else sold for gardens here, Ghaf wants less water rather than more once it has settled. Irrigation kept on a lawn schedule produces soft, fast growth that snaps in wind and invites root rot, while a tree weaned onto occasional deep soaks builds the taproot it relies on.
How to care for Ghaf Tree in the UAE
Plant in full sun in unimproved sandy ground, water weekly for the first year, then cut back sharply. The commonest mistake is putting it inside an irrigated lawn zone, where daily sprinklers keep the surface wet, the taproot never descends, and a tree bred for drought ends up dependent and shallow rooted.
Where Ghaf Tree works best

Slowly at first while the taproot develops, then faster above ground once it is established.
Plants Care
Watering:
Water your plant once a week or when the soil starts to feel slightly dry on the surface. Keep the soil consistently moist, but be careful not to overwater, as this can cause brown spots and leaf drop. If the leaves become curly or dry, it's a sign that the plant needs water. It's best to water your plant in the early morning or late evening when the temperatures are cooler. Always check the soil before watering.
Light:
Provide bright indoor light or indirect sunlight for about 6 to 8 hours a day.
Temperature:
Maintain temperatures between 18°C and 24°C. Avoid exposing the plant to drafts, as these can cause undesirable temperature fluctuations. Mist the plant occasionally, about twice a week, to help maintain optimal humidity levels.
Fertilizer:
Apply liquid fertiliser every 15 days when the plant is actively growing. For best results, use Folikraft ready-to-use Indoor Plant Food.
