Description
Eranthemum Red is a compact bedding shrub grown for deep burgundy foliage that holds its colour year round instead of fading to green with age.
It is supplied at 40cm to 50cm in a nursery pot at AED 25, one of the cheaper ways to mass plant colour across a bed.
Colour intensity here depends on light. In full Gulf sun the leaves darken almost to black red; under a tree or against a north wall the same plant turns muddy bronze and stretches between nodes. Saline tap water shows first as crisping at the leaf tips.
How to care for Eranthemum Red in the UAE
Plant into free draining soil in sun, water daily through the hottest months and pinch the growing tips to keep it bushy. The usual killer is waterlogging: in a bed that holds water after irrigation, stems blacken at soil level and the plant collapses within days rather than declining slowly.
Where Eranthemum Red works best
It works as a block of colour under palms, as a lawn edge, or in a container mixed with silver and lime foliage where the contrast does the work. Order it with the rest of the garden and landscape plants.

At this size, six to nine fill a square metre, depending on how quickly you want the bed to close up.
Does it need replacing every season?
No. It is a perennial shrub here, though a hard cut back each spring keeps it dense rather than woody.

Watering:
Water your plant once a week or when the soil starts to feel slightly dry on the surface. Keep the soil consistently moist, but be careful not to overwater, as this can cause brown spots and leaf drop. If the leaves become curly or dry, it's a sign that the plant needs water. It's best to water your plant in the early morning or late evening when the temperatures are cooler. Always check the soil before watering.
Light:
Provide bright indoor light or indirect sunlight for about 6 to 8 hours a day.
Temperature:
Maintain temperatures between 18°C and 24°C. Avoid exposing the plant to drafts, as these can cause undesirable temperature fluctuations. Mist the plant occasionally, about twice a week, to help maintain optimal humidity levels.
Fertilizer:
Apply liquid fertiliser every 15 days when the plant is actively growing. For best results, use Folikraft ready-to-use Indoor Plant Food.
