Calathea Lancifolia Holland is a Dutch nursery grown rattlesnake plant, marked by long wavy leaves with dark blotches above and deep purple undersides.
It arrives at 70cm tall, priced between AED 180 and AED 220, with a nursery or ceramic pot option. That height makes it one of the taller calatheas sold for indoor use.
Calatheas are the clearest indicator of water quality in a Dubai home. Watered from the tap, chloride and fluoride in local supply collect at the leaf margins, and a thin brown rim appears along the wavy edge of every leaf within a couple of months.
How to care for Calathea Lancifolia Holland in the UAE
Moderate indirect light only, since direct sun flattens the leaf markings. Keep the compost lightly moist and use filtered or bottled water. Owners lose it most often by letting the pot dry fully once, after which the leaves curl inward lengthwise and rarely return to their old form.

No. Every second or third year is enough, and it grows slowly in an oversized pot, so move up one size only.

Watering:
Water your plant once a week or when the soil starts to feel slightly dry on the surface. Keep the soil consistently moist, but be careful not to overwater, as this can cause brown spots and leaf drop. If the leaves become curly or dry, it's a sign that the plant needs water. It's best to water your plant in the early morning or late evening when the temperatures are cooler. Always check the soil before watering.
Light:
Provide bright indoor light or indirect sunlight for about 6 to 8 hours a day.
Temperature:
Maintain temperatures between 18°C and 24°C. Avoid exposing the plant to drafts, as these can cause undesirable temperature fluctuations. Mist the plant occasionally, about twice a week, to help maintain optimal humidity levels.
Fertilizer:
Apply liquid fertiliser every 15 days when the plant is actively growing. For best results, use Folikraft ready-to-use Indoor Plant Food.
