Planters

A pot has to do three jobs: hold the root ball, let water out, and survive where you put it. Material decides all three, and it is the attribute most buyers skip past on the way to choosing a colour. The range here runs from an AED 10 saucer to a AED 550 floor planter, across four materials that behave very differently in UAE conditions.

Ceramic, fiberglass or fiber clay

Ceramic is the heaviest and the most fragile. It looks best indoors, holds moisture longer than porous materials, and it is the right choice for a plant that stays in one place. Thin decorative ceramic can crack in direct summer sun outdoors, where the surface heats and cools faster than the body of the pot.

Fiberglass and fiber clay are lighter, and that is their real advantage. A 78cm fiber planter can be moved by one person when a ceramic pot the same size cannot be moved at all once planted. They tolerate outdoor heat and sun without cracking, which makes them the practical choice for terraces, balconies and anything that has to sit in the sun.

What each type costs

Drainage is not optional

Every pot and planter on this page ships with a drainage hole. That matters more than it sounds, because a container without one kills a plant slowly and kills succulents and cacti quickly: water collects at the base, roots sit in it, and rot starts out of sight while the leaves still look fine. If you are using a decorative container from elsewhere that has no hole, use it as a cachepot instead. Keep the plant in its nursery pot and lift it out to water, which gives you the look without the risk and makes repotting easier later.

Matching pot size to plant

Go up one size from the nursery pot, not three. An oversized pot holds more soil than the roots can use, that soil stays wet between waterings, and the result is the same root rot as a pot with no drainage. A 20cm ceramic suits a desk plant, 40cm to 60cm suits a floor plant of around a metre, and anything above 1.8 metres needs a 50cm or larger planter for stability as much as for root room.

Indoor and outdoor are different problems

Indoors the questions are weight on the floor, whether the saucer catches overflow, and how the finish reads under artificial light. Outdoors the questions are heat, UV and wind. A tall lightweight planter with a small plant in it will blow over on an exposed balcony, so either weight the base with gravel or choose a wider profile. Our pebbles and gravel range is also used as a decorative topdressing over the soil surface, which slows evaporation in summer.

Buying pot and plant together

Plants in the indoor plants range are priced in a plain nursery pot. On each plant's product page you can add a decorative pot of your choice at the same time, or order the plant alone if you already have a container for it.

FAQ

What do plant pots cost in Dubai?

From AED 10 for a saucer and AED 25 for a small ceramic pot, up to AED 550 for a large floor planter. Most indoor floor plants need a pot in the AED 90 to AED 250 range.

Which pot material is best for outdoors in the UAE?

Fiberglass and fiber clay. Both tolerate direct sun and heat without cracking and weigh far less than ceramic at the same size. Thin decorative ceramic is better kept indoors or in shade.

Do your pots have drainage holes?

Yes, every pot and planter in this range has drainage. Saucers are sold separately from AED 10 to catch the overflow indoors.

What size pot does my plant need?

One size up from the nursery pot it arrived in. A pot much larger than the root ball holds wet soil the roots cannot reach, which causes rot rather than faster growth.

Are ceramic pots heavy?

Yes, noticeably heavier than fiber clay or fiberglass at the same size, and a large ceramic planter cannot be moved once planted. For anything you may want to reposition, choose fiber.

Do you sell saucers separately?

Yes, in 10, 12, 14 and 16 inch, from AED 10 to AED 35. A saucer catches overflow indoors and stops water marking a floor or a shelf.

What is a cachepot?

A decorative outer container that holds the plant while it stays in its plain nursery pot. It is the standard way to use a pot with no drainage hole without risking the plant.

Do you deliver planters across the UAE?

Yes. Large floor planters and sets are handled differently from small pots because of their size, and the delivery window for your order is shown at checkout.
