Description
Delonix Regia, sold also as Royal Poinciana or Flame Tree, is a broad canopy deciduous shade tree identified by its scarlet summer flowers and fern like compound leaves.
Three sizes are stocked: 2 metre with 25mm trunk caliper, 3 metre at 40mm, and 4 metre at 60mm, priced from AED 350 to AED 1300. At the 3 metre and 4 metre sizes the MyPlants team handles delivery and planting on site.
Leaves drop through the cooler months and return as temperatures climb, so its shade is seasonal rather than constant. The root plate spreads wide and close to the surface, lifting paving and pool coping if the tree sits near hard landscaping.
How to care for Delonix Regia in the UAE
Plant into full sun in a generous pit backfilled with sweet soil, then water heavily and infrequently so roots grow downward. Most losses trace back to planting tight against a wall footing, where the root plate cannot spread and a young tree topples in a shamal.
Where Delonix Regia works best
Open lawn, villa driveways and compound entrances give the canopy room on every side. Keep it off pool decks, since flowers and pods drop continuously. See the other flowering trees and shrubs.
FAQ
How soon after planting will it flower?
A 3 or 4 metre specimen usually flowers within its first seasons once established. Smaller trees take longer while they build trunk and canopy.
Does it stay green in winter?
No. It sheds in the cool season and refoliates in spring, so plan for a bare period.
Plants Care
Watering:
Water your plant once a week or when the soil starts to feel slightly dry on the surface. Keep the soil consistently moist, but be careful not to overwater, as this can cause brown spots and leaf drop. If the leaves become curly or dry, it's a sign that the plant needs water. It's best to water your plant in the early morning or late evening when the temperatures are cooler. Always check the soil before watering.
Light:
Provide bright indoor light or indirect sunlight for about 6 to 8 hours a day.
Temperature:
Maintain temperatures between 18°C and 24°C. Avoid exposing the plant to drafts, as these can cause undesirable temperature fluctuations. Mist the plant occasionally, about twice a week, to help maintain optimal humidity levels.
Fertilizer:
Apply liquid fertiliser every 15 days when the plant is actively growing. For best results, use Folikraft ready-to-use Indoor Plant Food.
